A flexible players’ lounge designed to balance energy, comfort and acoustic control.

The brief was to transform an underperforming lounge into a warmer, more mature social space for players to relax and spend time together away from training. The existing room suffered from significant acoustic issues and became extremely loud when occupied by large groups. Our design focused on creating a flexible environment that could support gaming, socialising and dining while dramatically improving the acoustic comfort of the space.

Zoning the Space

"A social space that feels both playful and grown-up."

The layout was reworked to create a series of informal zones across the large open plan room. A central activity area with table tennis and darts encourages interaction and movement, while quieter areas around the perimeter allow players to relax, game or gather for refreshments. A recessed lounge finished in deep teal tones creates a more intimate setting within the wider space, offering a comfortable retreat for console gaming and downtime.

Materials and Atmosphere

“Texture, timber and upholstery combine to create a calmer atmosphere.”

A richer palette of materials was introduced to soften the architecture and create a more welcoming atmosphere. Upholstered seating, rugs and warm timber acoustic slats introduce texture and warmth while helping to reduce reverberation across the room. The colour palette combines deep greens, natural timber and muted neutrals to create a calm but contemporary environment.

Acoustic Strategy

“Acoustic performance integrated seamlessly into the design”

Improving sound quality was a key driver throughout the project. Bespoke artwork panels were introduced to discreetly conceal high-performance acoustic foam, dramatically reducing echo without introducing obvious technical elements into the space. Combined with the layered materials and soft furnishings, these interventions transform the room from an echoing hall into a comfortable and sociable lounge.

The result is a flexible players’ lounge that supports competition, relaxation and social connection, providing a space that feels calmer, warmer and more refined while still accommodating the lively atmosphere of a professional football club.
